The campaigning has begun and a candidate forum will be held by the Courier at noon this Tuesday in the Amphitheatre.

The candidate forum will provide an opportunity for candidates to tell the student body why they are running for student government and what makes them qualified to do so.

The forum will take on a traditional question and answer format. Questions will be asked by a Courier moderator and there will be an allotted time for questions from the student body.

Throughout the following week, A.S. candidates will be seen campaigning on campus, visiting classrooms, handing out flyers and urging students to vote for him or her.

The campaigning will last until Tuesday, May 20, when online voting begins.

As of Thursday, 18 candidates have been approved for the Associated Students elections.

“It’s the most that we’ve had in awhile,” said Erica Colon, vice president of business affairs.
The student body’s voter turnout is expected to increase also. “In the past couple years we’ve only gotten like 1 percent of the students voting, but this year it’s suppose to be a larger turnout,” she added.

The candidates are Joshua Acevedo, Christina Javier, Irving Williams, Paulo Rodriguez, Lauren Crisci, Connor Lewis, Hendy Soegiarto, Nicole Mafonde, Devin Leung, Kathryn Mak, Joan Tibay, Marshall Roe, Mazen Ali, Christina Abadia, Kimberly Mendoza, Garbo Tat, John Campo and Akeem Mair.
