Local Shops To Get Inked

Getting a tattoo isn’t a decision people take lightly. They not only have to live with it for the rest of their lives, but they have to be sure the place they get it is safe and reliable. Some places you can get a tattoo near PCC are Old Pasadena Tattoo, Incognito Tattoo and Prix Body Piercing & Tattoo. Old Pasadena Tattoo at 17 N Raymond Ave. has been open since 1994. James Molina a 38-year-old tattoo artist has been working there since it first opened up. “I did my first tattoo right here in this shop,” said Molina. Molina says his longevity is his best recommendation. “We’ve been here over a decade we must be doing something right,” he said. “I would get a tattoo at Old Pasadena Tattoo, because I heard the people there are nice and it’s a clean place,” said Robert Soukiasyan a 20-year-old dental lab technician. It costs a minimum amount of $70 for a tattoo. Another option is Incognito Tattoo, which has been open for 15 years. It is located inside a building on 750 E. Colorado Blvd #6. Spencer Briggs is a 22 year old Tattoo artist who has been working there for a year. “We create a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere in order to make sure first timers feel comfortable,” he said. He also explains, “The tattoos people get more commonly vary on each artist. We all have our specialties.” The minimum charge there is $80. Prix Body Piercing & Tattoo is located at 56 E. Colorado Blvd and it has been open for 8 years. Piercing are also offered at tattoo shops. Edd Herrera, a body piercer has been working here for seven years, but has nine years of experience. He advises people not to pierce themselves due to lack of knowledge. Getting a piercing should be something people put a lot of thought into, because they can easily get an infection. “You don’t have to take any classes or do anything to be a piercer, that’s why it’s so dangerous,” said Herrera. In this shop, though, workers take CPR class every year and a first aid class every 3 years. Herrera says people need to do a lot of research before settling on a place to get pierced. “People need to check if the place looks clean, if the person doing the piercing is clean and if the piercings look right,” added Herrera. This shop offers 10 percent off on purchases over $20. “I went with my friend got her ears pierced there and they had a lot of jewelry to pick from,” said Jake Moreno 20 criminal justice major.
